Baltic Cruise Part 2

Bornholm Island (Danish) was accessed by tender, in the rain. Not much there except a tiny harbour, a lighthouse, windmill and pretty church. To be fair to the Island, the rain eased off and we had a walk around the shops before returning back to the ship.

We were then supposed to go to Wismar in Northern Germany but the destination had been changed to Warnemuende because of work being carried out in Wismar harbour. Warnemuende didn't sound like a very attractive proposition, it is close to Rostock and is a seaside town. How wrong we were. Such a pretty little town with a better lighthouse, huge wide beach and a range of touristy seaside stuff but done well. Coffee and cake were the highlight from a small corner cafe in a back street.

Aarhus was a place I'd previously been to in a band in the 60's. I couldn't remember any of it - it had completely changed, unsurprising after 50+ years. Arrival into Aarhus was via a series of really interesting buildings, into a dock a short walk from the city centre, via a walk by a canal. We went up to a site similar to Beamish museum, called Den Gamle By. A recreation of life through the times in Denmark from the 1600's through to the 1970's. The buildings are mostly imported from other sites and rebuilt brick by brick. We then went up to aRos artmuseum which is very striking and full of art and sculptures with a rainbow roof. To finish off with there was a brass band playing in the rain as we got back to the ship for departure.

Our final destination was Kristiansand in Norway and we'd been there before so previous photos and comments apply! Just the addition of a cannon (there have to be cannons somewhere). All in all we were very well looked after by Saga and the restaurants were all extremely good. Sue even managed to eat in the Khukuri House (Nepalese cuisine).

No food photos this trip.

Here's some other ones instead :-
